Sleep and ADHD: what the evidence says

A parent-readable summary of why sleep is captured separately, and what the SDSC screener does (and does not) tell a clinician.

How sleep and ADHD can overlap

Sleep difficulties are reported more often in children and adolescents with ADHD, but the relationship can work in both directions. Poor or disrupted sleep may make attention, mood and activity levels harder to manage during the day, while ADHD-related patterns can make it harder to settle or keep a regular sleep schedule. These patterns do not, on their own, show what is causing a child’s difficulties. 1
